The President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), Professor Olu Obafemi, fsonta, fesan, FNAL on behalf of the National Executive Committee, cordially invites you to the 2018 Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) Annual Convocation, Induction, Scientific Session and Investiture of new NAL Fellows taking place on Thursday, August 9th, 2018 at the J. F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria.

Convocation is at 11 a.m. Guests are to be seated at 10.45 a.m. and the procession of Members and Fellows commences at 10.50 a.m. NAL does not wait for invited guests or members. The Convocation ceremony starts at 11a.m. prompt. Note that anyone who intends to invite a distinguished personality to the event is required to duly inform or notify the NAL Secretariat at least two weeks before the event.

Induction Ceremony for New Members:

This year, the convocation and induction ceremony for new NAL Members will take place at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium. They are also expected to join the procession of Fellows and Members of the Academy.

 

Investiture of New NAL Fellows:

The 2018 Regular Fellows of NAL are:

Convocation Lecture:

The theme of this year’s Convocation lecture is: Plural Loyalties in a Modernising State.

Convocation Lecturer:  Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, FNAL, Professor of History, Osun State University & Director, Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding, Osogbo, Osun State.

Venue: J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria

Date: Thursday, August 9th, 2018.

Time: 11.00 a.m. Prompt.

Luncheon:

After the Convocation, there will be a Luncheon at 1.30 p.m. The Venue is the University of Lagos Restaurant. This is strictly for Fellows and Members. Fellows and Members with invited guests are expected to take care of their visitors elsewhere.

The Scientific Session:

The Scientific Session begins at 3 p.m. at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium. All Members and Fellows are expected to attend.

The Scientific Session Speakers for 2018 are:

Fellows’ Night

The Convocation on August 9th, 2018 will be preceded by the Fellows’ Night on the 8th of August, 2018. The Fellows’ Night is usually held on the eve of the Convocation in the Functions Room of the University of Lagos Guest Houses at 7.00 p.m. It is only open to Fellows of NAL. The Guest Speaker at this year’s Fellows’ Night is Ambassador (Dr.) Dapo Fafowora, Hon. FNAL.

2014 Convocation and the Investiture Ceremony of Fellows

NAL held its 16th Convocation and the Investiture Ceremony of New Fellows at the Main Auditorium, University of Lagos on Thursday 14th August, 2014 at 11am. The Convocation Lecture entitled: The second pledge: Citizenship and the Challenges of Nation Building was delivered by Professor Francis Egbokhare, FNAL. The investiture ceremony of:
(1) two new Regular Fellows: Prof. Festus Agboola Adesanoye and Prof. Philip Adedotun Ogundeji,
(2) one Overseas Fellow: Prof. Olabiyi Yai and
(3) three new Honorary Fellows: Olori (Dr.) Olatokunbo Gbadebo, Dr. (Mrs.) Virginia Anohu and Amb. Oladapo Olusola Fafowora, took place immediately after the lecture.
A Luncheon was held at 1.30pm and the scientific session started at 3.00pm in the Main Auditorium, University of Lagos. The Scientific Session Lecturers were Prof. Sola Akinrinade, and Prof. Moses Makinde. The session was chaired by Prof. B. Olatunji Oloruntimehin, FNAL.
